June 1, 2010
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, signed into law on March 23, 2010, directly impacts 1099 reporting for small businesses. Effective January 1, 2012, small businesses will now be required to issue 1099 forms to any vendor of services or property to which the business has paid more than $600. The Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation clarifies that this new 1099 requirement applies "for all payments aggregating $600 or more in a calendar year to a single payee." Form 1099 is also sent to the Internal Revenue Service. Changes will apply to all payments made after December 31, 2011. The first 1099s under these new rules will be filed in 2013. For more information, see the second “News” item on www.limo.org. |
