For U.S. Operator Attention: Wage and Hour Law Primer

September 17, 2009

The NLA has just released a “Wage and Hour Law Primer for the Chauffeured Transportation Industry” prepared by NLA general counsel Keller and Heckman LLP in Washington DC.  It contains the attorneys’ explanation of various operating models for chauffeured car companies in the U.S.  A copy is provided here for your review.

The primer is a guide intended to provide basic information about the general requirements of federal wage and hour laws and the responsibility of employers to properly classify workers.  It was written to be a quick reference to federal law.  It does not address state wage and hour laws and is not a comprehensive or exhaustive description of all the laws with which employers must comply.

Please be advised that nothing contained in this guide should be viewed as the opinion of the NLA nor is the guide meant to be considered legal advice. Employers are strongly encouraged to seek the advice of their own attorneys versed in wage and hour law as it may apply to the transportation industry when making decisions regarding how they wish to conduct their business – including decisions on operating models.
