Airport Fee Increase Defeated by Arizona Limousine Association

October 31, 2011

Following a survey that found 91% of airport traffic is public and 9% is chauffeured transportation, shuttles and buses, the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport recently announced all new airport fees would be borne by the 9%.

Working with the NLA and its consultants at Cornerstone Government Affairs, the Arizona Limousine Association and other entities, e.g. off-site parking, taxi and shuttle companies, have endeavored to get this decision reversed and now have met with success - at least  temporarily.

Per an email received this past Friday October 28 from Tracey L. Rivas, Ground Transportation Superintendent, Operations Division, Phoenix Aviation Department, "After holding several industry outreach meetings and listening to industry stakeholders, the Phoenix Aviation Department has determined that it will postpone a recommendation to implement commercial ground transportation trip fees until further notice.  The Department understands the economy has been challenging, however it continues to significantly subsidize facilities and services necessary to support commercial ground transportation operations.  While many airports around the country already have a trip fee system in place to recover costs, Sky Harbor will delay implementation at this time.  Local businesses will be notified in the future when discussions are reopened on this topic."
